San Angelo Coliseum bond election
A proposed bond for the San Angelo Coliseum, which was built in 1958, will allow the City to increase seating capacity at the Coliseum from 5,000 to 10,150 seats, including 44 additional accessible seats and 60 companion seats. It would also construct life safety improvements and add 204 toilets. If approved, the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Association would also take over operation, maintenance and management of the coliseum upon completion of the project.
The bond election has been called for $41,660,000. The estimated tax rate impact is an increase of 4.7 cents. If the bonds are approved by voters, then the anticipated tax impact on a residence homestead is projected to be $37.60 per year for each $100,000 taxable appraised value.
Residents over 65 or disabled who have an approved homestead exemption will not have their tax bill increased, except for certain improvements made to their homesteads. Pursuant to City ordinance, the dollar amount of city taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older or disabled persons cannot be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turns 65 or disabled, provided they file for the appropriate exemption.
Below are renderings courtesy of the San Angelo Rodeo Association that depict what the Coliseum could look like after the proposed renovations.
